About us

We as a family started Connected K9 all because of our son Lewis, Lewis is our 11 year old son who since the age of 3 has gone through countless tests and hours in multiple hospitals in an attempt to find a diagnosis.

Finally after 8 heartbreaking years of fights and struggles we got our diagnosis of Beckers muscular dystrophy. Connected K9 was set up 3 years ago because we discovered the most effective way to balance his BMD and his autism was an assistance dog. However because of his dual diagnosis a dual purpose assistance dog was needed. No one in the UK supports or funds this service so we decided the only way we could truly meet our sons needs was train our own dog. So my wife and I decided to train our Akita cross staffordshire bull terrier to become Lewis’s assistance dog.

We as a family has taken on multiple training courses and hours of training to get Zena up to standard so that she could assist Lewis in the situations that need her support the most.
We have now set up Connected K9 dog treats to support funding for further training and additional training needed when we have to retire Zena. We also would like to teach Lewis important life skills he will need when he leaves school.

We want to use all the knowledge and skills we have acquired over the past 3 years training Zena to further support Lewis and hopefully support other parents that feel that an assistance dog would meet their child’s requirements by helping with their training needs.
